The Rockies are heading for a nightmare season. First off, Colorado plays in a division with the Dodgers and Padres – two of the favorites to win the National League pennant – as well as the Giants and Diamondbacks, who will both be improved this year. But, above all, the downfall of this team will be the pitching staff, both on the starting bump and in the bullpen. The top of the rotation will feature German Marquez and Kyle Freeland, two guys with career ERAs over 4.25, and one of their offseason signings was Connor Seabold to the the No. 4 starter and his career ERA of 10.55 is going to balloon pitching in Coors Field, especially when his bullpen is ranked as one of the worst in baseball entering the season. On offense, this is a team with just two top-notch Major Leaguers (Kris Bryant and Charlie Blackmon) that won 68 games last year and did nothing to improve. Go under!

The World Baseball Classic was disastrous for the Mets as closer Edwin Díaz – one of the best in the game – crumbled to the ground during a postgame celebration on the mound. Díaz, who signed a record-setting five-year, $102 million deal this off-season to remain with the Mets, sustained a complete tear of his right knee and is done for the season. Even before that devastating news, this was a team heading for regression. Sure, Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander are both future Hall of Famers, but they’ll both be over 40 years old by the end of this season and it’s a lot to ask two guys with that many miles on them to pitch 180+ innings effectively, especially when you consider the off-season losses Jacob deGrom and Chris Bassitt. Yes, the lineup is stacked, but in the end the lack of pitching depth will keep the Mets under 90 wins this season.
